Hey friends, happy Tuesday! Blogging from southwest Florida today as we are on a little family vacay before baby number two arrives!
Over the last 18 months we have traveled quite a bit with our first son and today I polled my Instagram community and you all wanted me to share some of my best tips for traveling with babies/toddlers.
We have only traveled by car with him so far, but have made two LONG trips (think 8+ hours) and over a dozen shorter ones (4 hours or less.)
We sleep trained our son from two weeks old, so he has a very predictable schedule. We use this to our advantage! When he was taking multiple naps a day we would leave during his first nap, and keep as close to this schedule as we could that day.
I also found it best to have him nap at the destination upon arrival, this sets up for a successful bedtime.
We use this portable sound machine, to mimic the white noise he is used to at home.
We also just started using this slumber pod, over his pack and play. This has helped tremendously with room sharing and/or sleeping in an unfamiliar place. We even use it at my parents house. He can successfully sleep in their family room in his slumber pod, while we are in the living room. 🙌🏻
I like to turn on this fan inside the tent to keep it nice and cool for him.
Once we arrive and unpack we set out a set of toys from home. I keep a “go bag” of toys for travel, that he really likes, but only gets to play with every once in a while. This helps keep him focused on the toys, while I baby-proof the hotel/AIRBNB/house.
It really helps us to travel with help (aka a grandma!) but we have done a few trips just us, and it all works out.
We tend to get dinner early, and have found that ordering a meal for him when we sit down makes the dinner easier.
If we can’t swing dinner out, I like to use a delivery app to order in local food too!
I am a list girl at heart, so I have shared a short list of repeats I pack for every trip with the baby!
•bunny (sleeps with this every time)
•baby blanket
•shusher
•stroller with snack tray
•toys for hotel
•toys for car
•snacks, lots of snacks
•diapers & wipes
Next are some pictures from our latest adventures as a fam! I can’t wait to travel as a family of four in just a few short months!!

Love from the sunshine state,
Sarah
