Hey friends,
Today’s post is something I should have written back in 2016 when we moved into our first rental. I have now done this “hack” or DIY countertops in three homes. The first two are rentals and obviously we cannot purchase new countertops in those. This most recent time has been in the first home that we purchase. Eventually we might update the kitchen but for now that is not in the budget.
We are taking great care and updating this home to our liking. I can say with full confidence that this DIY project will not look tacky or cheap once completed. Especially now that this is my third time installing it and I have only gotten better with it each time.
The end result is remarkable. And our last home our neighbors did not even realize until about a year later that we had put contact paper on the countertops in the kitchen. If you can line up the seams perfectly it is not noticeable at all.
I am not an expert on this DIY but just here to share some of the tips I have learned along the way.
My first step would be to order more material than you think you need, because there are always mishaps and having extra is always best.
I would also suggest getting one of these kits. It makes it easy to make sure everything is smooth and lined up correctly.
Really the only other tool you need is a measuring tape and scissors.
Now for the before & afters…
